Do hamster bites hurt and why do some bite and not others?

My friend keeps getting bitten by her hamster when she handles her. She says it hurts really bad but I was wondering if she was overexaggerating a bit. I’ve never been bit by my hamster, he’s really very placid. I was just wondering why some hamsters bite and others dont.

Yes, hamster bites hurt. Every animal has their own unique personality. Some hamsters are either more territorial or nervous than others.

It’s pretty probable that it hurts. Getting bitten generally does. Teeth tend to be sharp.

Some hamsters have a more relaxed temperament than others and are more trusting of humans. Others get scared and may react defensively by biting.

Still others are just aggressive and don’t like to be handled.

The hamster won’t feel a thing, but your friend will! They have really sharp teeth. Some of them are a bit grumpy – it may be your friend wakes her hamster up or startles him and that’s why he bites, or she could have the smell of food on her hand. Maybe you are more gentle with your hamster and he has got to know you better.

Bites hurt, nips tickle. Each hamster has their own personality. Hers may be a tad more aggressive. If I were you, I’d tell your friend to tame her hamster.

Oh well yes hamster bites can hurt. But the reason sometimes they don’t is because it depends how hard the hamster bites you, the size of the teeth, and how agitated it was to bite. I do not have a hamster, but my friend does. It has only bitten me twice, out of the past year she’s had him. The first time he bit it barely hurt and it only felt like a little pinch. The second time it actually hurt…
Anyway, remember some hamsters are nicer than others, just like people. Some may be over territorial and others friendly. Here is a great link for your friend to show him/her how to tame his/her hamster: http://russiandwarfhamsters.tripod.com/hams/id32.html
I really suggest your friend reads it! Hope I could help! Happy New year!!!!

My hamster did bite, and it doesn’t hurt. She’s used to me now, so she doesn’t bite anymore.
& I think some bite because they are just not used to you, I’m not sure, sorry.

well there might be a threatining scent on her hand (if she has a cat or dog or recently ate something a hamster wouldnt like) it may just be the hamster too, they have attitudes or pesonalities whatever you wanna call it just like humans and he might just be a cranky hamster. hope this helps!! :)
