Do hamsters overeat and have a tendency to become overweight?
I’m worried that I may be over-feeding my hamster. I usually fill up his bowl at night and it is always empty the next night. But lately, people have been commenting on how big he is.

So I am wondering if hamsters are like cats who won’t eat if they don’t need to or if they’re like dogs who will always eat no matter what and have a tendency to become overweight and unhealthy?

Thanks!

It really varies from hamster to hamster. Make sure you have an exercise wheel. If you fill up their bowl and its all gone I’d be willing to bet your furry friend is hiding it around his / her cage. Remember if you have a dwarf hamster they should be kept in pairs! If you have just one they most likely will become depressed and overweight.
Hope I helped
