My boyfriend and I just bought our hamster a bigger cage because his cage got to small for him. The cage is a lot longer(24″) and its a metal wire cage. The space between the wire is wider than the old cage and our hamster is basically trying to get out. He keeps sticking his nose through the spaces and bites it. What should we do?

dude just leave him alone hes just exploring his new home.
thats funny! :)
I really hate metal cages for hamsters.. even if the space doesn’t look big enough for him to get out, he may be able to. An old hamster of mine managed to squeeze himself out through the tiny spaces of the bars.. I kept wondering how he got out, but one day, right after I put him back in the cage, within seconds he had managed to get himself out, with me sitting there watching him. I immediately switched to a plastic cage, with no spaces. I would recommend you do the same… if not, make sure that the environment outside of the cage is safe and try and ensure that he won’t get too far (which is really hard to do, considering how small they are and the spaces they can fit into)
I don’t know why it’s so important. As long as he can’t get out, surely it doesn’t matter what he does with his nose. It’s not unusual for hamsters or any animal to do that.
My hamsters always stick there nose through the cage, I think it’s adorable. The hamster is more likely smelling around than trying to escape.
Also, my one hamster only does this when it’s asking to be taken out and played with.
Biting the bars is also fine because it will help wear down it’s teeth.
Don’t try and stop it from this embrace the cuteness of it!
Ahh my hamster does that to ..but she doesn’t get through ..Idk if your can but mine can’t.
thats normal for the hamster. just don’t bother him, because u could have indentions in your finger if u tried. exploring is right, and my hamster used to do that too. it might not be that hes trying to get out, but more to explore, and find something to do. Make sure you play with them lots. Or, it may die. :( good luck! hamsters rock!
its not relly dat he wants 2 get out he just needs to shorten his teeth or else hi can hurt himself!my hamster used 2 do dat 2! dont wprry he cant break da wire!
He’s exploring his new habitat, that’s all. But,if he’s biting the cage, you can get him some mineral chews that would cost like, $4 at PetSmart.
