How long do you keep with the mom and how long is the gestation period for a ?
We just had and unexpected litter of hamsters they are at least 2 weeks old.How long do they need to be in the same cage as mom? They are eating regular food and drinking water and running up and down the ladders of the cage.
Also how long is the gestation period for the momma? We didnt get the daddy out of the cage until at least 2 days after we noticed the babies. We believe the momma may be pregnant again she has gotten very big , the first batch of babies are 2 weeks old.How old are they when they start to mate?

I found in a page that they need to be separated as soon as they get hair and coming out of the nest. You need to separate them all since they will breed with each other. The mother most probably is pregnant already.

The gestation period for dwarf russian hamsters (campbells or winter whites) is 18-21 days. For roborovski hamsters it is 23-30 days and 21 days for Chinese hamsters.

The babies are fully weaned at 3 weeks of age (4 weeks for Roborovski hamsters) and this is the age they should be separated from their mother. It is best at this time to also separate the babies into sexes so that all the female babies are put into one cage, the male babies into another to avoid the babies breeding together as they can start breeding shortly after this time.

As you didn’t get the male away from the female until after the babies were born there is a chance the female is already pregnant again with a second litter.
