What temperature is best for two hamsters?
I have two hamsters. One is slim and the other is pudgy. What temperature should they be kept at? I like my room cold but I also put on a heater for them.

Basically, if you are comfortable in the room they are also.

No lower than 18 degrees C, that’s the temperature at which they will start to get cold and if it drops too low they’ll attempt hibernation which can kill them. This is assuming they are syrian hamster.

    Hello,
I asked the same question when I owned some.
They tend to cuddle close together and find their own warmth. So dont worry if it is cold. But not too cold!
A certain type of bedding would be suitable too. Soft bedding makes it easier for them to find warmth and make tunnels. Also, room tempature is fine.
    Hope this helps!

Hamsters are most comfortable at temperatures between 65 to 80 degrees F. When the temperature drops below about 41 degrees F, they may go into a state of torpor. Technically it is not hibernation, but the metabolism and heart rate drop significantly, and they do appear to be asleep. For more information on this, please see the following links:

Dwarf hamsters are not known to go torpid as they originate from a cold region. Syrian will if the temperature is too low.

I should add reptile under the tank heating pads are good to use if you are concerned the ambient temperature is too cold. They are better than human heating pads because they are regulated; thus, eliminating a fire hazard. Also, heating stones can be used to warm your hamsters’ home. The following link is an example of the stones, but please note I am not promoting this particular vendor:

I am like you and worry about our hamster, rat and mice. Ohio is quite cold, and I do all I can to ensure they stay warm.

About average room temperature. but it should be at least 10 degrees celsius (50F) and around 37 degrees C (100F) but can go a little higher but not to much higher as heat stroke can occure.
In the UK room temperature is about 21 C.
Do you have something to measure temperature with?
I have a clock that has temperature alarm etc.. on and my rooms usually between 13C (55F) and 27C (80F).
If your room gets below 5C (40F) your hamster may go into hibernation. If below -5C (22F) then your hamster may develop hyperthermia and pass away.
    I hope I helped. :)
